CommandLineBingo

What is it?

Command line bingo is an idea inspired by the HertsLUG? (Hertfordshire, UK, http://herts.lug.org.uk/) where people are given a command line utility to research a few days before the meeting and then they can give a brief talk about it.

Once we've had the chat about the command and taken some (possibly alcohol induced) tangents, the person who initiated the discussion will write up a summary of the command and maybe some cool ways to use it and post it on the Command Line Bingo History page.

It sounds too hard! (sob)

Not at all - you have the internet at your disposal, and you should use it, as well as the man pages and anything else you can get your hands on. Remember that the linux community is (generally) very helpful and will point you in (mostly) the right direction.

How do I play?

Send an email to to let him know you're interested and then each week before the meeting (or when sufficient people are keen) three commands will be posted to the volunteers, the LUG mailing list and the wiki. The person can then have a look at the commands and pick the most interesting (or least boring!). The commands will be randomly chosen from the /usr/bin directory on Bob's laptop :)

Is it like bingo at all?

Err, not as far as I can tell. I stole the name from HertsLUG? without giving it a second thought :)
